When I was a kid, I used to love plastic truck models. I loved all kinds of models plastic military models, diecast models made out of metal. The plastic truck models, however, were my favorite. It was not because a plastic truck model looks particularly good. In fact, you can buy a model that is already assembled and probably looks better. The difference is, however, that you get to put the plastic truck model together yourself. I would get plastic truck models where every step of it was left to me. They would come in kits where I would have to assemble the pieces, glue them together, and then paint them.
Painting the plastic truck models was my favorite part of it. When I got die cast models that were already fully assembled, there was always something missing. I didn’t love them as much. Of course they would look good, and they would still excite my imagination, but with the plastic truck models there was something more to it. I felt like I had actually built the truck. In my mind, I was assembling a full-sized big rig. I was a mechanic, and my reward for my hard work would be to drive my very own truck down the road. There was nothing more exciting to my eight year old mind.

They are easy to assemble, and much better for a beginner. The more difficult plastic truck models will have to wait for a year or two. Then, he will see what plastic model building is all about!
