All About Toy Dog Breeds

Life seems to come at us with its own plans on a consistent basis. Every time I think that I have everything planned out for my life, something happens that calls or adjustments. Having things unpredictable adds some of the spice to life, but it also adds stress. I have tried to teach myself to go with the flow, by this has never been very easy for me. I guess in a way I am a control freak, however I am learning that the more I try to control situations the more stress I am under. I need to remind myself consistently that just because I want something to go a certain way, doesn’t mean that everyone else does. My likes and dislikes may be different than other people but that is alright.

My mother moved to an apartment several years ago. She could no longer take care of the large family home that we grew up in. The apartment building where mom is allows small pets. I am a cat lover so I thought mom should have a cat. Before I could get her one my oldest sister talked to mom about getting a dog from one of the toy dog breeds. My sister’s reasoning is that this would get mom out walking more to exercise the dog. The toy dog breeds had never been one of my favorite animals. My experience with dogs from the toy dog breeds is that they jump and bark a great deal and they tend to need a lot of medical care. I said this to my sister and she told me that I was miss-informed. She said the toy dog breeds are healthy and life long lives. There are also several of the breeds that make good companions for people with allergies. She thought that the small dog would be a happy healthy thing for mom.

My mother said that she had never been around small dogs and did not know if she would like having one or not. My sister knew a man that raised toy poodles. His female had given birth to four puppies. They had all been spoken for, but then one person had to back out. He said that it is not difficult to sell the toy dog breeds because they are in high demand. He said that mom could have the puppy for a week and if she did not want it he would take it back. The small puppy was buff colored and fit in the palm of mom’s hand. I could see by the way she looked at it that it would not be leaving at the end of the week. I had to admit he was cute and as time has passed I have come to like the little guy. Once again I tried to control a situation and have my way by giving mom a cat, but I see know that the toy poodle was a better choice.

My Favorite Winnie The Pooh Toys

Monday, July 14th, 2008

You can call me nostalgic, but it is nice to know that some of my favorite childhood toys are still around. When I was a kid, I absolutely love Winnie the Pooh. I am pretty sure that all kids go through faze of collecting Winnie the Pooh toys, but mine went a little bit further than most. I had a tremendous collection of Pooh Dolls. What of the neat things about Winnie the Pooh toys is that they come in so many different varieties. Some of them were very soft and cuddly, other ones were more rugged. You could throw them around, stack them in piles, or play games make-believe with them. It didn’t matter – they were great for a variety of imaginative purposes.

Of course, one of my favorite Winnie the Pooh toys was the video game. I don’t remember exactly what it was called, but you had to help all the characters solve puzzles in the Hundred Acre Woods. What was so cool about it was that it provided a fun way to use the computer for educational means. There has been a lot of buzz about educational programs, but I haven’t seen many work quite as well as the Winnie the Pooh game. It really got me to think about problem solving skills, and that is an important ability to develop as a kid.

The only other toys that I liked as much of my Winnie the Pooh toys were my Disney toys. My dad had been a great toy collector in his day, so I had a good combination of old and new. Not only did I have Mickey Mouse dolls, but I also had first edition collectible Disney watches, old Disney figurines, and other toys they don’t make anymore.

It was neat to be able to mix characters from different cartoons and have them all play together. Having Pluto talk to Tigger was one of my favorite activities. They would have some of the most interesting conversations, and they would always end with a wrestling match. The only thing I regret was being so rough with my Winnie the Pooh toys. At the time, it was a lot of fun to play with them, but I wish I had more that I could pass on to my own kids. Still, I am quite happy to get them toys of their own.
