A Toy Kitchen Is A Lot Of Fun
You might think that getting a toy kitchen for your daughter is a bit old fashioned, but there are many things they can learn from them. If you don’t want to give her the idea that women are the only ones who should be in a kitchen, encourage daddy or boys their own age to play with them. What they can learn from such a toy can help them out with many things that they will have to know for kindergarten.
The toy kitchen can obviously teach about the basics of what goes on in a kitchen. Many children learn from watching parents cook, and even helping them, but they love to try to do it on their own. They won’t care that it is pretend. All they will know is that they are getting to do something that they see mommy and daddy doing quite often. This alone can teach them a lot and will be worth the price of a toy kitchen. They can cook meals for their parents, or for their dolls or stuffed animals. Toy food can be a great addition for this purpose, but pretend works just fine too.
When children enter kindergarten, there are some things they should know, and these are things they can learn by playing a toy kitchen. They will learn these things without realizing they are doing anything other than playing. Early math is about placement of objects. This means learning above, under, beside, in and out. Those things might seem simple, but they are things children can have a hard time with at first. You can us the dimensions of a toy kitchen to teach them these things.
For more learning, you can equipped the toy kitchen with things from your own kitchen. You might give them measuring cup sets that have a cup, half a cup, etc. You can then make up very simple pretend recipes that they can use, and they can then use those things to make your recipes. This will teach them about how much a cup is, and about what half of a cup is, and even a quarter of a cup. This is also very simple math, but a bit more advanced than up, down, beside, etc. Learning with a toy kitchen is more than that too, and you might be surprised what they learn on their own.
